The Bronx Whitestone Bridge is a heavily traveled, 7,100-foot-long, suspended span bridge, connecting Bronx and Queens . Existing construction varies, and consists of a 2,300 feet main span, 555 feet side spans and approach spans on both sides.

The scope of work included investigation and design for rehabilitation of Bronx and Queens approach structures and ramps under project BW-08.  The rehabilitation included structural repairs to existing reinforced concrete roadway deck including full depth replacement, removal and replacement of entire existing wearing surface on ramps and approaches, replacement of deck joints, retrofit of bearings, miscellaneous structural steel repairs,  steel painting and complex maintenance and protection of traffic plans.    Many of the structural repairs were result of flags discovered under earlier biennial inspections.  The work involved extensive construction support because of nature of work including use of Latex Modified Concrete, and complicated maintenance and protection of traffic.

Project Cost:   $6.9M.
